In IT organisations, a Business Analyst acts as a catalyst towards the growth of a business entity. Performing tasks with apt techniques to be used in identifying the needs and opportunities of business needs and opportunities and recommend apt solutions. So, it is the position that gives great impetus towards organisational change, which creates incredible solutions with the help of technological advancement. This profession is blend of business and technology aspects that programs calculative benefit for Business Managers.
Project Managers and Business Analysts are needed to work hand in hand with Management Consultants to meet the needs and requirements of clients. In this juncture, Business analysts need to posses effective communication skills where need to tackle the technical aspects to be presented in a lucid and effective manner. Tactfulness plays a major role in evaluating a business coupled with diplomacy. Evaluation of client’s needs and necessities at the same time gel with concerned people is also important. Business Analysts need to possess good client interface where need needs to be presentable and smart enough to grab the attention.
Below is the list of duties needed to perform by Business analyst in the event of selection.
1.    Requirements gathering.
2.    Data modeling.
3.    Project Management.
4.    Application support / training.
5.    Documentation Analysis and writing.
6.    Should act the face of the project.
7.    Should act as SPOC to all the stakeholders concerned the project.
8.    QA / testing.
9.    Risk analysis.
So, to perform the about duties, a Business Analyst need to have three (3) competencies at the core. They are

A.    Intellectual – Examples of Intellectual competencies are Analytical, Critical and Later Thinking skills with knowledge and experience in different domains, acquaint details about new – products, systems, technologies etc with ease; Technical Understanding with analytical in nature will affect the different commercial units.
B.    Emotional – To qualify for Business Analyst position, one must work well with internal and external clientele, aptitude towards handling and meet timelines; skills to lead requirement-gathering sessions through facilitations; and a strong  intent to details.
C.    Physical – A BA not only gather the requirements, document it in the prescribed format, working knowledge of UML diagrams concerned to BA, Effective presentation and Communication skills to work different stakeholders, proficient in multi-tasking skills and possess an ability to balance multiple priorities to the project  and scope changes in good shape.
